The Institute has been affiliated to West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata and also approved by MCI. The Institute has also been ranked at #18 by Week 2020. IPGMER Kolkata: Placements
- There is no such placement cell for medical colleges because no such companies visit medical colleges for recruitment. Instead, the students of MBBS are offered internships after their degree.
- IPGMER, Kolkata offers 70% internships to its students in various hospitals and clinics to learn and explore hands-on exposure with senior expert doctors and gain experience.
- The highest monthly stipend offered during internship is INR 80,000/- and the lowest monthly offered is INR 40,000/-.

Ques. How well maintained are the hostels of IPGMER, Kolkata?
Ans. Hostels of IPGMER, Kolkata are well furnished and well maintained so that the girls or boys don’t face any sort of discomfort. There are 2 hostels for MBBS girls and 2 for MBBS boys. There are separate hostels for PG students and interns.
The rooms of the hostels are clean, properly furnished, well ventilated with a balcony, and big enough to accommodate 2 students. There is no mess on the campus. Instead of the mess, four canteens are there which provide hygienic foods at an affordable and reasonable cost. Apart from this WiFi, water purifier cum cooler, security with 24*7 CCTV surveillance, parking space, lifts, etc are some of the infrastructure amenities provided by the hostels of IPGMER, Kolkata.
Ques. What is the level of ragging in medical colleges like IPGMER, Kolkata?
Ans. Ragging is an inhuman act and strictly banned in IPGMER, Kolkata campus. Ragging is both a punishable as well as a criminal offense. The student who would be found indulged in ragging, either actively or passively, would be liable to be punished according to the college premises' Anti Ragging Committee rules and regulations.
The student shall be suspended from the hostel and college and he/she would not be allowed to attend classes as well. All the scholarships and other academic facilities will be withdrawn and he/she will be rusticated from the institution as well as complain shall be charged against him/her.

A huge sports ground is also there on the campus where students can actively participate in outdoor games and athletics. Other than this, community services like blood donation camps, free eye checkups, and social awareness campaigns on World AIDS Day, Breast Cancer Day, etc are also organized by the college faculty members and students.
- Hospital amenities: IPGMER & SSKM, Kolkata has emerged as the best hospital in Kolkata which has highly qualified doctors with ample experience in their respective fields. Being a multispecialty hospital, it is strongly recommended for the treatment of serious cases as it is one of the largest and oldest trauma centers of West Bengal in which the doctors are experts in performing surgeries and transplants.
- Location: The location of the college is pretty good as it is connected by road networks as well as metro connectivity to facilitate travel to and from the college.
CONS:
Some minor and negligible cons of the college are that some of its students and staff keep organizing rallies and indulge themselves in promoting some political parties. Due to this, the college always remains in the media’s eyes and this becomes disturbing for some students and doctors. Secondly, due to crowding in the internship phase and workload, most of the students find it difficult to have hands-on experience.

Ans. Like in any other government hospital, an intern at IPGMER, Kolkata also faces a lot of workloads and a hectic schedule.
