NEET-UG 2024: Grace Marks Of 1,563 Students Scrapped, Re-Exam On June 23, Centre Tells SC

Document

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate 2024 (NEET-UG 2024) grace marks of 1563 students who took the test would be revoked, the Centre informed the Supreme Court on Thursday. The students will then have the opportunity to retake the exam. Following hearing the Center's judgement, the court declared that a re-examination for the 1,563 students will take place on June 23.

"After discussions, a later Committee has suggestions that are presented to us. The scorecards of 1563 applicants will be revoked and stand withdrawn per the advice. These 1563 applicants will take another test. Judges Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta of the Vacation Bench stated that the outcomes of individuals who choose not to present would be determined by their true marks alone, without the need for compensating marks.

The court stated, "The May 5 scores will be discarded for those who appear for a re-test."

The retest will take place on June 23, as announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Thursday. In order to guarantee that the counselling session set for July 6th is unaffected, the re-exam results are anticipated to be released by June 30.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the matter and declared that those responsible for the entire NEET results fiasco would face consequences. "Today, the administration presented its position before the SC. About 1,500 pupils are enrolled. He stated, "The administration is treating this matter seriously.

Wallah Alakh Pandey, the CEO of Physics and petitioner, claimed that the latest scandal has damaged the NTA's reputation. "Today, NTA acknowledged before the Supreme Court that the students' grace marks were incorrect and that this led to their discontent. They also promised to take away the grace marks. On June 23, the 1,563 students who received grace marks will retake the exam, or they can accept their initial result minus the grace points. In front of the SC, NTA acknowledged that the grace marks they had given were incorrect. Is there another discrepancy in the NTA that we are not aware of? Thus, there is a problem with NTA's confidence.

In response to inquiries concerning the NTA's function, Pradhan stated, "The NTA was only established in the past following a SC order."

Due to alleged anomalies and paper leaks, the court had on June 11 sent a notice to the NTA on a plea for a retest for the NEET-UG 2024. The Supreme Court's vacation bench reviewed the case filed by 10 NEET applicants.

The vacation bench declined to postpone advising eligible applicants for admission to BDS, MBBS, and other courses.
